The emotional and mental state of ecstasy is highly revered. It seems as if various groups practiced all of the classical means of reaching this highly intense state of pleasure; mediation, drugs, dance, sensory deprivation and excess. The headlessness and contorted anatomy of the figure represent the non-rational aspect of this mental state. Ecstasy is a central part of the fall equinox festival, a joyous communal festival before the long dark.
