The more abstract the totem the more abstract the concept it represents. This totem represents a form of knowledge beyond reason. Perhaps it is a figure of wisdom, or something akin to mysticism. We do know that in this period people had perfected nonverbal communication over distance. Maybe this totem represents this energy. This rare example is made from a single piece of wood. Other versions reflect the more common pattern of having the head of a different type of wood.
